Good modern hotel
Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. Good modern hotel with great breakfast option. Away from the main centre but reachable by local transport.
The room cleaning was a bit random and seemed to be on alternative days and we had some strange marks on the ceiling.
Our elderly parents found the hi tech controls a bit bewildering and missed having a reception desk.

On the housekeeping rhythm, we offer a choice between daily service or a lighter touch every three days to reduce environmental impact. When guests opt for the greener schedule, there’s a drink on us at the bar. If the routine felt inconsistent at any point, we’d always want to smooth that out quickly; our hosts can adjust the plan or pop by to refresh anything you need.
About the marks you noticed on the ceiling: the exposed concrete is a deliberate part of the design, reflecting the building’s sustainable character. That said, everything should still feel well cared-for, and our hosts are happy to take a look if something seems off.
We hear you on the tech. Our Lean Luxury philosophy uses smart tools to keep things simple, including a streamlined check-in, but we never leave guests to fend for themselves. Our hosts are on hand around the clock to help with controls in the room or to step in with a friendly face whenever a desk would be handy. For elderly travellers in particular, we’re glad to guide and set things up so it all feels effortless.

Charged city tax as an Amsterdam resident and ignored for over 6 weeks
I stayed at Ruby Emma Amsterdam in June 2026 and was incorrectly charged city tax of €46.99 via Booking.com. As a registered Amsterdam resident, I am legally exempt from city tax and provided my residency card at check-in as proof.
What followed was months of misinformation, unanswered emails and zero accountability. I was told by staff to contact Booking.com, who sent two emails to the hotel on my behalf, both of which the hotel claimed never to arrive. When I chased by phone, the hotel could not locate either email despite having my booking reference and case number.
The hotel then responded claiming they cover city tax for all guests and deduct it from the room rate yet I was charged it as a separate line item. When I pointed out this contradiction, they went silent. My last email, sent on 20 July, received no reply.
I have now escalated to IHG and the Amsterdam municipality. A hotel that misapplies tax law, provides contradictory explanations, and ignores formal written complaints does not deserve your booking.

As the booking was made via a third-party platform, we're unfortunately unable to make changes to or refund individual components of the reservation directly, as the payment and contractual relationship are handled directly between the guest and the platform. We appreciate that this may not have been the answer you were hoping for, especially after spending considerable time trying to resolve the matter.
What we're most sorry about, however, is the experience you had while seeking answers. We always want guests to feel listened to and supported, even when the outcome cannot be changed. It's clear from your feedback that we fell short in this regard.

Lovely hotel close to Metro station
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Ruby Emma hotel in Amsterdam! We were part of a very large group attending an international convention in Utrecht, and the service was incredible. We appreciated every staff member: from the baristas, who were always smiling (in spite of the long lines) to those who magically made our dirty breakfast dishes disappear, to the fantastic kitchen staff, who prepared our delicious, and extensive, breakfast. And speaking of the breakfast, we can’t say enough about it! Such incredible variety, from the loose leaf tea to ginger shots to omelettes and meat and cheese and pastries. It was a veritable feast! Finally, as someone who has stayed with large groups at other hotels, I also appreciated how fast the elevator was! It was very efficient.
The room, too, was very nice, with a leather banquette spanning the large windows and a king size bed. We were on the 17th floor in a "lovely" room. It was compact but comfortable and we had everything we needed and liked the layout/decor very much.
While the hotel is not in the heart of Amsterdam, we actually preferred the location, as the metro was extremely close and you could be in Amsterdam in 10 minutes. We were also close to Utrecht by train, which is a gorgeous city and worth visiting as well. Finally, it was very convenient to the airport, only a 15/20 minute uber ride. The staff also kept our luggage safe on the day we checked out so we were able to go into Amsterdam and come back and pick up our bags before going to the airport.
The only issue we experienced was that it didn’t seem like the temperature of our room was consistent, and it never got very cool. We were there during a heat wave in August, so it might not be an issue at a different time of year. Overall, highly recommend this hotel for visitors to Amsterdam.

Hotel generally good
The hotel is located by the train tracks, although you have to walk 5 minutes through a less inviting area. Rooms on the whole clean except for the hair in the sink. Great bar.

Unsere ruhige Lage hat den Vorteil, dass du mit Bahn und Metro schnell bei den Highlights wie dem Königlichen Palast oder dem Rijksmuseum bist, und nach dem Trubel wieder entspannt zurückkommst. Wir verstehen, dass der kurze Weg von der Station nicht überall charmant wirkt.
Beim Zimmer sollte sich alles rundum gepflegt anfühlen. Haare im Waschbecken sind nicht das, was wir abliefern möchten. Wir bieten dir eine tägliche oder auch eine im Dreitagesrhythmus stattfindende Reinigung an. Wenn etwas nicht passt, sind unsere Hosts jederzeit für dich da und kümmern sich kurzfristig darum, damit du dich sorglos wohlfühlst.
Wir freuen uns, wenn du beim nächsten Amsterdam-Trip wieder bei uns vorbeischaust.

A very clean an friendly hightech Hotel. Despite a massive Event going on, the personnel stayed calm and was always responsive.
The location is perfect, close to the Amstel River and the Metro across the street.
