I planned a proposal to my girlfriend and asked the staff to help with flowers and champagne when we got to the hotel. When we got back there was a beautiful flower arrangement and champagne just as I requested the staff were also very sweetly excited about the proposal. The room was nice and had a nice view outside. There was complimentary breakfast and cheese/wine-all very nice additions.

We had a lovely time at Mill Valley Inn. The balcony room was wonderful and we enjoyed the breakfast and wine reception. It was a perfect spot for a short weekend away!

Convenient boutique hotel in the heart of Mill Valley. Super comfy cal king bed. Balcony with tree top view.
Nice breakfast in the lounge and wine on the patio each evening
Only negative, the bathroom was tired and needed updating.

Mill Valley Inn--not worth the $ or dealing with poor customer service
While the Mill Valley Inn is ideally located if you are visiting Mill Valley, I found it to be overpriced for the facilities and our experience staying there was horrendous. We stayed for two nights (a Sunday and Monday) and the price was about $330/night. I got the lower price by booking prepaid/nonrefundable. We stayed in room 2. Rooms 1-4 are unreachable by the elevator that serves the rest of the hotel--you must walk up a flight of stairs with your luggage (which was never disclosed prior to arrival). It's also important to note that rooms 1-4 sit directly over the covered parking and directly under the "breakfast" room that is used each morning by guests. The major problem that we encountered was that the staff began setting up for the included breakfast buffet at approximately 6AM and the floor of that room is tile. This resulted in being woken up BOTH mornings to constant, LOUD clomping footsteps, bumping sounds, and scraping chair legs across the tiled floor from 6AM until the end of the breakfast period at 10AM. I asked for a room change because of this after the first morning. Was told the hotel was sold out for Monday night...really? Why then can I still go online and book a room for Monday night? Was told that the website was wrong. Lied to directly to my face. The staff made no apologies or attempted to rectify the situation in any way and actually seemed pretty snotty when I brought up seeing availability on the website. I would 100% recommend staying elsewhere as this hotel delivers nothing close to expected value for a $300+/night hotel and the staff were rude and dismissive.

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your stay with us and that you weren't comfortable or well-rested in your room. I also apologize that the stairs came as a surprise at check-in. We try to be proactive about letting guests know in advance about this. I'm so sorry that information didn't reach you. We have 4 rooms in our Main Building that are only accessible by stairs (rooms 1-4). We do mention the stairs on our website, but it may need to be more prominent — thank you for bringing this to my attention. I'll make sure it's addressed.
I also want to address the lack of help with your luggage. I can definitely empathize with your frustration. We have a bellman on-site who is there to assist, which is especially important since there's no elevator to the first floor of rooms (1-4). I'm sorry if that wasn't relayed to you — we typically ask at check-in whether guests need help. Clearly, we missed this step, and I'll be making sure to correct that, going forward.
As for the noise, your concerns are completely valid. We are working on sound dampening measures for rooms 1-4, particularly around chairs and equipment, to reduce what carries over from the breakfast room set up, in the morning. Please be assured, based on your review, I've spoken with our breakfast team about keeping noise to a minimum while setting up.
Regarding the room change, we would never lie to you. It's our practice to move a guest whenever possible, if they are unhappy with their room, and I was concerned to see your comments. Looking back at the reservations, you're right that one room was available — however, it was also on the first floor, meaning you would have still had to climb the stairs, so it wouldn't have solved the issue you'd raised. I hope that helps explain why you were told there were no other options, but I'm sorry you weren't met with a warmer, more empathetic response — that's not the experience we want to provide.
I'd genuinely love the chance to have you back and show you the experience you were hoping for. I'm confident we can make it a much better stay next time. I did try to contact you, directly. Very nice location. You can explore Mill Valley easily. The wine and cheese evening get together is a nice touch. Breakfast is superb. Easy access to Muir Woods. Don’t forget to make parking and park reservations
