Disappointing cabin for the price
We stayed at Mellbystrands Camping for three nights and booked one of their cabins with a private toilet. This review is mainly about the cabin we stayed in rather than the campsite as a whole.
We paid over €600 for four nights. The cabin is the only cabin on the campsite with its own toilet and is presented as the most comfortable cabin option, having been recently renovated. This was one of the reasons we chose it, and given the price, we expected a considerably higher level of comfort.
Unfortunately, we found the cabin very disappointing and ended up leaving one night earlier than planned. By the time we left, we were honestly relieved to be moving on.
The biggest issues for us were the darkness, cleanliness and view. Even with the lights on, the cabin felt very dark and gloomy. We also tried to use the reading lamp next to the sofa, but this caused the fuse to trip. We reported this to the campsite. However we don't think the lamp would have made a huge difference to the overall brightness.
The terrace was another major disappointment. Directly in front of it and to the right were two high chain-link fences, with no bushes or greenery to soften the view. For us, this made the outdoor area feel much less pleasant than we had expected from the pictures.
Cleanliness was also a major issue for us. There were cobwebs and spiders throughout the cabin, not just in the occasional corner where you might expect them in a cabin surrounded by nature. We found spiders around the bathroom heater, underneath the bed and in various other places throughout the cabin. The shower facilities in the service building were also very old and did not feel clean.
We were only three people, but even for us the cabin felt cramped and the furniture and layout did not seem very well thought out for such a small space. For example, there were five chairs with armrests, which were too large to be pushed underneath the table.
This became especially noticeable once the sofa had to be used as a bed. We had not originally planned to use the sofa bed, but the lower bunk bed is not a double bed as we had understood from the description, and was too narrow for us to sleep comfortably. As a result, we had to use the sofa bed, which took up a significant amount of the already limited living space.
Although the cabin is advertised as sleeping up to five people, based on our experience we would find it difficult to imagine five people staying there comfortably.
In hindsight, having a private toilet was not important enough to us to justify the compromises in overall comfort. Afterwards, we stayed in another cabin at a different campsite, in a slightly lower price range. It was smaller and very simple, but felt much more comfortable because it was bright, exceptionally clean, and very thoughtfully designed. This showed us that the problem was not the size or simplicity of a cabin itself, but how the space is designed, maintained and cared for.
The campsite itself was okay. There are playgrounds and activities for children, and the location close to the sea is convenient. There are certainly more beautiful campsites, but being within walking distance of the beach is a definite advantage.
Overall, we found the price-to-comfort ratio very disappointing. We would not choose this cabin again at this price. We would have appreciated an honest review mentioning the darkness, cobwebs, fences, limited space and level of comfort before booking, so we hope this review gives future guests a more realistic impression of what to expect.

Disaster
One of the worst places I've ever been.
We booked 3 nights at the XL place with water and electricity.When we arrived and checked in, the reception announced that the cost of electricity will be added, they claimed that it said when we booked. We went together with another family who booked the place next to us. We are four adults who could all swear that there was nothing about the cost of electricity, you were not told what the tariff was, there was no electricity meter on the pole so you could not keep track yourself. But when you checked out she said a price, you did not get a receipt for how much electricity you spent and what it cost.
Showers cost different depending on the time of day you showered. 6kr for 2 min it cost between about 14-22. Before they were a price of 4-5 SEK / 2 min. The service building was one of the most disgusting I set foot in. Although it was cleaned regularly, there was no difference.
Wifi was disaster, did not work at all. Was no ordinary network either.
Ball ice cream there were 4-5 flavors to choose from if you would have GB / Sia, otherwise there was another type of ”finer” ball ice cream with more unusual flavors.
The beach café was not connected to this campsite, but was perhaps 1 km further down the beach.
The playground had a jump pillow that the children appreciated. Otherwise there was ONE "bell swing"? And a rusty slide.
One positive thing was that ”camping fun” (I think they were called?) came one of the days we were there and threw a foam party.
We also had bad weather all week with a lot of wind and not so much sun. So the nice beach we didn’t get to experience, which MIGHT have weighed up a bit if it was nice weather.
Will never come here again and will not recommend a soul to visit the campsite.

Rundown and greedy camping.
Rundown camping probably sums up most of it.
Bricked facilities with peeling paint, rusty climbing frames and broken things in the playground.
They charged extra for consumed electricity, even though they booked an electricity spot and did not receive information about it at the time of booking. And it was not that the place was very cheap per day.
Wifi that did not work, expensive showers with different pricing throughout the day.
If you shower at night or at lunch it was a penny cheaper.
Menus and signs more amounts of typos etc.
No camping we will return to.
It felt greedy and like they tried to milk the last money before a bankruptcy.
A lot of staff stood and hung out in the restaurant and shop that you could have used in better ways to freshen up the place.

Cottage of 20 m2 with toilet
The cottage we rented was in very worn condition. The refrigerator was not defrosted for a long time, and even the paint on the grille had cracked (not hygienic) The railing to the terrace was murky. Some details of the cottage have been fixed with duct tape, so here they were a lot to be desired considering the price. The rest of the campsite also needs some love in the form of color cleaning and new details. A big plus is the location to the beach.

Had higher hopes.
Super nice location and well-stocked shop. There is also a restaurant and ice cream parlour but we never tried it. Unfortunately minus for extremely unfresh service building. It was cleaned regularly but not satisfactorily. We talked about this in the meantime, but no change. No power sockets so you could blow dry your hair. Cramped showers and tricky system of payment (different prices different times, etc.) Too bad you couldn't check how much money you had left to shower for somewhere other than reception.
We had space size L and checked measurements before. The place was still crowded with awnings. Had the birch hedge so close that we could not open windows on one side. Might have left if it was cut.
