A Second Visit That Exceeded Every Expectation

Returning to The Old Forge for a second stay confirmed everything I remembered from my previous visit—and even exceeded my expectations. It is rare to find a place that not only maintains such an exceptionally high standard but seems to become even more welcoming with time.
The hosts are simply outstanding: genuinely warm, attentive, and passionate about making every guest feel at home. Their hospitality is second to none, and I felt like a returning friend rather than just a guest.
My room was immaculate, beautifully furnished, and exceptionally comfortable, providing the perfect place to relax after a day exploring Totnes and the surrounding countryside. The peaceful garden remains a wonderful oasis of tranquillity.
Breakfast deserves special praise. Every morning it was freshly prepared to order with outstanding quality and great attention to detail. It is quite simply one of the finest breakfasts I have ever enjoyed anywhere in the UK.
The Old Forge is, without question, one of the very best B&Bs I have ever stayed in. Returning here was an absolute pleasure, and my already excellent impression has been fully confirmed. I can recommend it without the slightest hesitation and am already looking forward to my next visit.

Great location.

Quaint guest house tucked away in a quiet location but still well placed for the town centre and the boats which are all within walking distance. Our room was small but very clean and comfortable for our short stay.

Poor value for money

The room was clean but VERY compact for the price. A fan would have been much appreciated in this current heatwave; I didn't feel comfortable having to sleep with the door wide open. Breakfast was paltry and not served with any flair. Jam in its jar, toast postage stamp size and economy carton-tasting orange juice. We have rarely left a hotel breakfast room feeling hungry especially for the price we paid. The setting was pleasant though and a great location within close walking distance from the town centre.

Very disappointed

Booked an overnight stay based on previous reviews.Sadly we were very disappointed. Paid £206 for a first floor room without a fridge or air conditioning.Requested a fan which was too small to be much use.Breakfast service was very slow,no apologies,clearly understaffed.Offered breakfast menu,requested prunes and yogurt which comprised three prunes a sprig of mint and a dollop of yogurt.Butter portion was miniscule.Next table was served advocado and eggs which were not on the set menu.No mention of alternative options to the set menu.
Felt that we were treated unreasonably on the grounds that we were only staying one night but yet were charged £206 with no apologies for poor service.
We will not be returning.

A great place to stay !

What a lovely place to stay to visit Totnes, 5 minute stroll across the bridge into the town. We had a family room upstairs with a lovely decking area and the bed was very comfortable. Julie was always welcoming and friendly and provided a really great breakfast to start the day. We look forward to returning in the future.
