Spacious, modern, clean, central and friendly. Also, cats!

Yup,any hostel that welcomes kitties is alright by me. Orchids is super central, right next to Plaza San Martin, with plenty of things to see and do within walking distance.
The first thing you'll notice is how clean and spacious this hostel is. The lockers are simply the biggest I have ever seen- seriously- they were taller than me! My 4 bed dorm had lots of space as well. Bunks have lights and power. I believe there is a common area on each floor, and a balcony for you smokers out there. The showers were solid and the super sized shower heads were luxurious. Super sized extra thick towels as well. Note to whoever keeps the bathrooms clean- keep up the good work!
Note that in some travelers photos, there is a a fountain and courtyard. Not the hostel's fault, but these are not accessible to guests.
There is no public kitchen, but filtered water is available, and you can stash things in the fridge if you ask.
Some reviewers say the noise from a neary club is too much, but I hardly noticed a thing.
Breakfast is AYCE and included. If they could just add some whole wheat bread and any kind of protein- even peabut butter- it would be perfect.

The Best

I've been travelling for +3 years by bicycle and have stayed in many, many hostels throughout the world. This hostel is NOT "one of the best", it is "the best". Beautiful old building with non-creaking wooden floors, 10' high doorways and windows, spotlessly clean with sturdy bunk beds, personal plug and light and a seriously comfortable mattress. Class of traveller also seems upmarket even at these low prices and there's very little fellow travelers' noise. Located in the centre of the city so traffic noise is constant but that's what a city is all about. Even has a breakfast of real coffee, tea, juices, bread rolls, jam and sliced tomato with lettuce.

Can,t go wrong

While I am still here for the second time in eight days I can now say that it was a wise choice. So much so a third time is in less than a month. That being said, Orchid location is in the center of everything. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The rooms are clean as well as the rest of the facilities. Game room with biliard table a plus in my book. Complimentary breakfast is buffet style with limited but healthy choices. Very secure with security monitors and guest only access through front desk activation. Highly recommend for solo traveler as well as groups.

Did not live up to the good review...

Orchid hostel had pretty good facilities and the room was quite comfortable. My only concern was that it was located right next to a bar which blasted loud music late into the night. If you plan to stay on the weekend, I am not sure you can get any sleep or get some really good ear plugs along with you. I tried to get some USD exchanged for soles, but front desk gave me a really bad exchange rate. Ended up exchanging money with a cab driver who gave me a much better rate. For my next Lima trip, I would rather stay at some place in Miraflores.

Nice Stay

We stayed here for 2 nights while travelling as a family. We picked this hostel as we were looking for a more relaxed vibe and Orchid Hostel was great for us. Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was ok. They had a games room which was nice. We found the location great - easy to catch public transport and enough things around the hostel to keep us entertained. Staff was nice and they recommended a couple of restaurants which we tried both and were happy with their advice. Thanks for the nice stay!
