The only positive thing about this hotel is the beautiful view.
Unfortunately, our experience with the owner/manager was extremely unpleasant. We felt that we were treated in a very unfriendly and unwelcoming manner, which had a big impact on our stay.
The hotel also has some very strange and inconvenient rules. You are required to leave your room key at reception every single time you leave your room – even if you are only going to the pool.
The Wi-Fi was terrible and barely worked. The breakfast was also very disappointing, and some of the fruit looked old and almost rotten.
Overall, we did not feel welcome or comfortable here. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this hotel, and we definitely would not stay here again.

Beautiful location with fantastic view.
Unfortunately, our experience did not meet expectations in other regards. The hotel had several issues that affected our stay, such as AC and maintenance. Significant improvements are needed before we would consider staying here again.

The hotel has an amazing view, that’s about. We booked for 2 nights as part of a 10 day trip around the amalfi and capri. We lasted 18 hours before booking another hotel in sorrento. I honestly put this down to the hotel being the closest thing to a school under the supervision of a strict headmaster “the owner” I’ve ever come across. If this place lightened up on the rules (which there is many) I honestly think this place could be great. I moved the sun lounger 2 inches to be closer to my partner and got told by the staff to move it back as it’s not allowed. There are also no parasols around the pool on ones covering the tables (there is 1 table) and the pool area can only accommodate 18 guests there are at least 20 rooms so the math just doesn’t math. The whole not allowing food in the hotel and then not having anywhere to buy food blew my mind. The hotel advises you go to the shop in meta then gives you a number for a taxi driver who charges 50 euros for a 4 min drive. Then when you get back with the food you can’t bring it in. This will forever be a running joke with us. The hotel mega mare will from now on be the hotel where we say “at least it’s not as bad as that place”. Take this as a warning because we did not. If you want a nice stay in the Sorrento area book sorrento center the money you save being at the hotel mega mare is soon gone in taxis and stress.

Great view that’s all

We gave Hotel Mega Mare 2 out of 5 stars.
The view from this hotel is absolutely stunning, and if you’re only looking for an incredible sea view, then it’s definitely worth considering.
Unfortunately, there were several issues that really affected our stay.
When we first arrived, the hotel manager was quite rude while explaining that we had to hand our room key back to reception every time we left the hotel, even if we were just going to the pool. We also had to hand in the key for the safe, which felt very strange and inconvenient.
If you don’t have a car or a moped, I wouldn’t recommend staying here. There is no convenient public transport nearby, and the nearest bus stop is about a 30-minute walk away along a very busy and dangerous road, especially in the heat.
Another disappointing rule was that you aren’t allowed to bring your own food to the pool area. You have to buy food from the hotel’s menu, which is very limited (mainly paninis). If you’re expecting proper food on-site, you’re probably better off booking a hotel with a full restaurant.
The lack of Wi-Fi in the rooms is unacceptable in 2026. Because of this, my wife had to rely on mobile data throughout our stay and ended up with a huge phone bill from her service provider.
That said, a huge shoutout to Naveen, who was by far the nicest and most welcoming member of staff. He was always friendly, helpful, and made us feel welcome. He truly deserves a raise!
Finally, the breakfast was absolutely diabolical and one of the worst we’ve experienced.
Overall, the spectacular view is the hotel’s biggest selling point, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to make up for the poor customer service, inconvenient rules, lack of facilities, and disappointing breakfast.

Beautiful View, But a Total Nightmare. Avoid!
Do not be fooled by the cliffside photos. While the balcony view and pool are beautiful, everything else about Hotel Mega Mare is a disaster. It is an outdated 1980s facility managed with unearned 5-star arrogance.
Rude & Arrogant Staff: The reception staff speak very poor English and are highly disrespectful. As an Asian tourist, I felt looked down upon. When I called to cancel a room cleaning, the receptionist got annoyed and literally hung up the phone on me. They also aggressively force you to leave your heavy key at the desk every time you walk out.
Disgusting Bathroom: It is tiny and cramped due to a useless bidet. The poorly designed shower leaks heavily, flooding the entire bathroom floor every time. Worse, there is a constant, foul public-toilet sewage smell.
Outdated Rooms & No WiFi: There is NO WiFi in the rooms—you must go to the lobby for internet. The mattress is paper-thin and uncomfortable. There are no spare outlets; I had to unplug the bedside lamps just to charge my phone.
Isolated & Expensive: The hotel sits on a remote cliff with zero public transport or shuttle service. Expect to pay an extortionate €20–€30 one-way taxi fare just to get to Meta station.
Stingy Rules: No free water. They only serve breakfast, yet the receptionist arrogantly forbade us from eating takeaway pizza inside our room, forcing us to eat on the balcony. They also refuse to provide pool towels.
