An excellent experience.

I went last night, June 20, 2026, with my friendly neighbors who knew the restaurant "Au Relais du Klevener" in Heiligenstein.
We were ideally placed on the terrace with a magnificent view of the Alsace plain.
I am a former hotelier-restaurateur of a very nice establishment in the bay of Mont Saint-Michel, and I can still judge the quality of a restaurant by certain small details.
From the beginning to the end of our meal, everything was excellent; the dishes were served on hot plates (which is a sign of a good restaurant), the foie gras dumplings and the beef cheek were a delight, the side dishes were numerous and varied, and the service was excellent with always a smile. Moreover, which does not spoil anything, the prices of the various dishes offered were very reasonable compared to the majority of other restaurants in Alsace.
I can only recommend this restaurant; I will return very soon.

Food is fine, the rest is not so

Large, good food, extensive breakfast and dinner too. Staff not very friendly, except for the owner. Dilapidated, outdated rooms. 2 floors behind a room with a view of an old alley where the truck delivers the goods for the restaurant at night and a clock that chimes every quarter hour

Hotel room and bathroom much too small. With balcony overlooking the valley! I will let you judge by yourself,

When we booked I was offered a room with a balcony and a view of the plain. I am therefore proud of this proposal! I'll let you judge for yourself, the attached photos of the beautiful view of the valley which was in truth the roof of the restaurant below. As for the very small, horrible old room, the very poor quality mattresses, two people could not fit between the wall and the bed. not to mention the bathroom I have never seen such a small shower tray stuck to the toilet as well as the sink stuck between the two. No storage to put a vanity etc... the cleanliness left something to be desired. We thought that in terms of catering it would make up for the rest but it was like the rest.
The receptionist didn't bother to pay attention to my comments regarding the room.
Beautiful photos in presentation, but the reality is quite different.

A beautiful address

Arrived by chance we fell in love with the place, the hotel, the restaurant and the people in charge of this beautiful address. Comfortable room overlooking the plain of Alsace, delicious salty and sweet pies, local wines to taste and adopt! What a beautiful place!

The klevner canteen...too bad.

We won't dwell on tastes and especially the colors, which here and there "stain" the landscape. Those who chose and those who allowed this synthetic lemon yellow....frankly...are to blame.
Ultimately, this is like the rest. Unfortunately banal. Our meal and the wine list were dull, soulless.
Grandma Aline's queen-sized bites were tasteless, the sauce and the few rare pieces of meat crushed a crust of molassed vol au vent which, for one of them, smelled rancid. If they were either homemade or artisanal, I would be worried. No doubt a bout of fatigue from Grandma Aline... A unique sauce, for different meat dishes...well, well. A tart presented as rhubarb, with 50% apples...
The satisfaction of the (many) tables around us confirms the poor level of appreciation and knowledge in terms of gastronomy. The race to the bottom in all its glory.
A monotonous wine list, which for Alsace only offers house wines
(meh) and little research on the rest of the wine regions. We will praise the service, to which we have reported our grievances (obviously little concerned by our remarks), service which will be able to take part in a running event, since, visibly in training during the service.
