Quaint, unique and unforgettable

A very quaint hotel in the most amazing location. It is not modern or up to date, however it is charming and unique and we would definitely go back. Amazing view of the sunset and really good food at the restaurant

Poor hospitality despite a beautiful location

We arrived at reception to find a note saying staff were in the dining room and we should wait. After 10 minutes with no one appearing, we rang the bell. Another 5 minutes passed before a woman appeared and asked if we’d already been helped. When we said no, she said she’d go find “the manager.” Someone eventually came out and, without so much as a hello or welcome, simply said “checking in.” When I asked “sorry?”, she replied curtly, “checkin’ in??” That set the tone for the rest of our stay.
The rooms were small, old, and worn, though clean. Over our two-night stay, we never once saw this woman again, nor any cleaning staff — our room was never serviced.
The next day we tried to get a drink at the hotel bar. The same woman was working it. She stood in front of us for about 5 minutes doing other tasks without a single hello or nod of acknowledgement. When she finally looked up and we ordered two beers, she told us we had to order food as well — no food, no drinks at this bar. We left. We later learned that hotel guests are in fact allowed to order drinks without food — she apparently hadn’t recognized us from check-in.
The location is genuinely lovely, with beautiful views, and this could be a wonderful place to stay if it were better run and the staff showed even basic hospitality. As it stands, we can’t recommend it.

The Nimpkish Hotel (I stayed in room 3 which has a lovely deck overlooking the water and is on the side of the hotel fully facing the sea) is a lovely oasis in Alert Bay - highly recommend it for a clean, comfortable, conveniently located place to relax, walk around the little town, and get a meal at the hotel restaurant (my halibut and chips was fresh and great) - or you can walk across the road to the Orca Inn for a fine dining experience - both were great.

The Nimpkish hotel is a very quaint little place in a charming little village. More like a B & B with only 7 rooms but a lovey little find. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is great. Our room on the top floor was very unique and has a lovely balcony overlooking the water. Beautiful! The breakfast room is small but the view more that makes up for that. The food selection is very limited but satisfying.
There aren’t a lot of options in Alert Bay but the Nimpkish Hotel is a very charming little spot and well worth a visit. The pub / patio downstairs is great too!

A hotel and restaurant with a view

We stayed 3 nights and it was lovely. A very comfortable room, a nice soft bed, good shower, little balcony. The breakfast room provides views over the water (dolfins, otters) and is also an agreeable place to relax in the evening and watch the sunset over Johnstone strait. We enjoyed the restaurant and restaurantdeck very much. Dined here three times and it was good. Not an extensive menu but just good. We enjoyed the chow mein, the fish and chips, the seafood curry and the butter chicken. Breakfast was included and it s a good start of the day with a breakfast with a view. We were lucky with the weather (sun, blue sky) so we could dine outside all evenings. 10 minute walk to the ferry, 5 minute to government dock. We had a very very agreeable stay.
