A guest house for the price of a hostel
A few friends and I heard about Miyazaki for its surfing. Not expecting much (I'm a bit jaded since I'm from California), we decided to spend a 3 day portion of our Golden Week here.
I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
First of all, the Pension is in a perfect location. It's in a quiet neighborhood (though you could say Aoshima is a quiet town--very few bars or places open after 9). It's right next to the beach (perhaps 10 minutes walking very slowly). There are several restaurants close by and the main drag is 15 minutes walking away. There is also a surf shop on the way to the beach if you don't own your own board/wetsuit. (Side Note: When we went surfing, everyone who was Japanese wore a wetsuit. We rented one too, but found out the water wasn't really cold enough and took them off. We got funny looks, but not renting a wetsuit would have saved us 2000 yen or so).
The owner is very friendly, providing us with towels, information about the area, and most appreciated, free food! We were given some snacks to eat when we brought back some beers to drink in the dining area, and some onigiri for our trip home the next morning. We didn't get meal plan, but looking at what some of the other guests were eating, I don't think we would have been disappointed. The beer vending machine in the lobby is surprisingly normal priced (as in cheaper than most convenience stores).
All in all, I loved Aoshima as an experience so much that I'm going back next month for my birthday present to myself. And for sure, I'm staying here again.

アットホームな民宿
急遽宿泊が必要になり利用しました。無料の駐車場あり。
おばちゃんが親切丁寧に利用方法を教えてくれたのが印象でした。お客さんも顔なじみなのか、とても仲がよさそうでした。
ベッドが４つあるドミトリー部屋に一人で泊まりました。サーファーさんや団体客にもオススメです。近くのホテルの温泉利用割引券や、蜜柑をくれる心遣いが嬉しかったです。
次回は素泊まりでなく、料理も食べたいと思います。

親戚の家のよう
オーナー夫妻が温かく迎えてくださいました。2食付プランにしましたが、少し濃い目の味付けでしたが、オーナー手作りのボリュームたっぷりのご馳走でとてもおいしく頂きました。

サーフィンライフ
波乗りするため福岡から宮崎には多い時には月2.3回通ってますが、その度に泊まっていたペンションになります。部屋は至って普通の部屋です。ベッドが二つと小さなソファがあります。経営されてるご夫婦の掃除が行き届いているからなのか毎回お布団もキレイでふかふかしてて、湿気臭さなどなく快適に過ごせます。マンガ本もあり、退屈しません。お風呂は隣にあるパームビーチホテルの大きな大浴場の安いチケットをくれます。アットホームなペンションです。疲れて帰ってくるとご夫婦が果物やお菓子を出してくれたりと気遣いが伺えます。食事所では宿泊者が集まり様々な方とお話でき、良いコミュニケーションの場になってます。歩いて5分以内 で子供の国や青島ビーチにいけるアクセスの良さもあります。温かいご夫婦の営むペンションでは自宅にいるような感覚で旅の疲れを癒すことができ本当にオススメです。
