Great choice for Castro
Great choice for Castro. Delightful and helpful staff, with fluent English spoken. Thank you for your help with what to do during my stay in Chiloe. The other main highlight was of course the cat!

Dismal attention
Unfortunately terrible attention, owner zero empathy with children.....
The days we stayed always with bad face, zero concern for the toilet of the bedrooms and for the change of sheets there was no replenishment of toilet paper, bathrooms without soap.

Mistreatment
We arrived on the first day of our week-long vacation with my partner, and we booked the double bed room with private bathroom. Although the hostel is located two blocks from the main square, the first problem we had was that they do not have parking. If you have rooms for more than 40 people in the hostel (according to information provided by the owner of the hostel) having two parking spaces is still nothing for the number of people. At this point it was the first drama we had and that I express here. Although the page says that you have to check availability, I think that as the owner of a hostel it doesn't cost anything to also check when making the reservation if you are going to visit with a vehicle. Well, I had unpleasant treatment, with bad regret, with unnecessary raised voices since I was only looking for a solution so as not to have to leave the vehicle on the street at the cost of it being stolen or damaged. Well, the treatment I received for not having read the conditions properly seemed very bad to me for a person who deals with tourists.
As for the room, it's not much, the sheets and bedspread leave a lot to be desired and the shower had a constant problem with hot water. In fact, one day "coincidentally" they had forgotten to turn on the heater to take a bath.
As for the kitchen and common spaces, they become small for the number of people who travel more in high season.
Perhaps many are interested in the hostel style with cultural exchange, but that does not mean they should provide minimum conditions such as shared bathrooms for more people than appropriate or give as a solution that the vehicle is left on the street because since the police are one block away nothing is going to happen.
In short, a bad experience in terms of the treatment I received as a tourist.

Great place
The best place to stay in Salinas de Guaranda. Lennon is a great host and gave us advice on what activities to do. Rooms were nice and comfortable. A great place to get an authentic Ecuadorian experience.

Pleasant stay but minimum housekeeping
Good location, very near main square and bus stations.
There usually are one or two volunteers.
Our stay was pleasant.
Bed are confortable and the place is safe.
In general felt very tight. There is only 2 showers/toilet for 18 guests.
Good atmosphere with other guests and volunteers
On one hand our stay was good. On the other end the housekeeping and maintenance of the house is the minimum. And the owner, even if she nice, did seem very motivated. Some examples:
- In one of the shower cold water from the tap is broken, had a string and sellotape all the time.
- Bathroom and kitchen should be cleaner: old empty shampoos and soaps left in the shower for the whole time (there were half dissolved), as well as plenty of hairs blocking the plugs.
- a used disposal shaver was in one shower for the whole time we went there.
- felt a little bit cold in the evening, and the heater is only On at 10 pm.
- one cooker, oven does not work ( has a note stuck on it saying it's broken). An alternative such a microwave would be nice to have
- towels to used to dry the plates are half shredded and never been cleaned
All these issues are very simple to take care of (old soap in the bin, basic cleaning)
