Great small town B&B.
Have stayed many times over last couple of years when working in area. Great accommodation, comfortable, warm in winter and nice to have bed and shower upstairs and lounge downstairs. Nice places to eat nearby. No complaints, would recommend.

Stop over
My partner and I stayed for one night as we had to be somewhere local very early the next morning, so when we found this we thought it would be perfect - having the breakfast in the room.
We arrived quite late so did not really see much outside but we quickly found our keys and room, the conservatory is quite nice.
On first impressions the room was basic but clean, nothing special. I was very disappointed that there was no bath - having paid £70 for the night I would have expected this.
We brought our dinner with us to have in the room, so we could have an early night and not have to worry about finding somewhere close by.
After microwaving our meals, we found that there were no forks in the room at all. Knives and spoons but not forks...seems a bit odd seeing as though the idea is that you eat in your room? Obviously we dealt with this and just used spoons to eat our dinner. There is also no sink in the 'kitchenette' so we had to wash our plates in the tiny sink in the bathroom.
As we got ready for bed, we also noticed that there was no body wash, soap or shampoo in the bathroom. Again paying £70 a night I would definitely have expected this - we had to have a shower with hand soap.
The bed was lumpy and hard, you could feel the springs though the mattress - therefore I hardly slept and was tired for the arrangements we had early the next morning.
Breakfast was also a disappointment. A tiny jug of orange juice - just enough to have one tiny glass each. Both cereals had nuts in - not great for my partner who has a nut allergy.
We left very early so again did not get to see exactly what was costing us £70.
Very disappointed - I will not be staying here again.

I am sorry you found so any things to be unhappy about during your short stay with us.
I spoke to your partner a few times on the phone and not once did he mention he had a nut allergy. If he had we would have taken the appropriate action.
Our rooms have never been described as basic. Each of our guests have their own private sitting room, (5 in all) bedroom and en suite shower room (as clearly advertised). Surely not having to sit in an armchair in a bedroom but on a leather sofa in a private sitting room is more than basic? Our beds have never been described as lumpy. As soon as we saw your remark we asked the very next guest who stayed in your room if there was a problem with the bed and they said no.
For breakfast we supply fruit, fruit juice, cereal, yoghurt, mixed bakery goods including muffins, croissants and brioche. We are NOT a self catering establishment and therefore no ‘kitchenette’ is supplied as the accommodation is serviced and we wash the dishes after our guests leave! I’m not sure why you thought you could bring a meal into the room (which most b and b owners would be aghast at) and expect a full compliments of dishes and cutlery. Everything is supplied in order for you to partake of the breakfast.
I’m sorry that you couldn’t stay awhile and take advantage of the wonderful views the accommodation enjoys.
Lastly I apologise profusely and wholly take the blame for the lack of toiletries. Due to no staff that weekend we weren’t actually open but so as not to let you down I took your booking and I completely forgot to leave them in the room. If the staff had been here this wouldn’t have happened. The toiletries are totally complimentary and have no bearing on the £35 per person cost. We stand by our tariff and are competitive to the area for just a bedroom let alone a private sitting room thrown in.

Peace and comfort
Michael saved our weekend away after a disasterous night at the local Swan Hotel. We arrived on the doorstep mid morning needing somewhere to stay that night. He kindly got a unit ready for us in record time and although he was uanable to provide a breakfast he returned with an extra bottle of milk for us The room was in a converted stable block with several other similar units, overlooking a private meadow and rolling countryside. Everything was clean and in good order with comfortable beds, a wet room suitable for disabled, sofa tv and easy access internet. We had a wonderful nights sleep and were able to continue our journey feeling refreshed. No doubt we will vist again when we are in the area

Pleasant and Spacious Accomodation
We had a one night stay at the Thaxted B&B to attend a wedding locally. Our booking was taken very efficiently by Yolanda - and we were told where to find our keys on arrival.
The accomodation was in very spacious, comfortable modern units in what appeared to be a converted stable. These had a lounge area downstairs, with stairs leading to a first floor bedroom and en-suite. Nice decor and furmishings, and everything was very clean.
Our continental breakfast was waiting for us in our room on check-in - a nice selection of cereals, rolls, croissants etc, with a toaster and microwave for us to heat things as we wished. Fresh milk and yogurts were waiting in the good-sized fridge. This could quite easily be self catering accomodation - which I know Yolanda also offers.
In summary, this was very high quality and comfortable accommodation but we were slightly unsettled by never meeting anyone from start to finish - not the usual B&B experience but very good none the less.
