Wonderful Small Hotel in Historic Caen

We stayed in the green room which was the size of an apartment. Everything was spotless. Beautiful layout, furniture and surroundings. The late entry service worked very smoothly and staff were excellent in terms of the service they provided overall. Will definitely be back.

Beautiful at first sight, but disappointing due to constant sewer smell and bad shower.

We stayed here in the May holidays with two adults and two children (10 and 13 years). Upon arrival we were kindly received. We were a little early, but our room was already ready, which was nice. The first impression was good: a beautiful garden with a beautiful wisteria, which managed to obscure the sewage smell somewhat.
We stayed in the yellow room, reached by a picturesque stone spiral staircase. Unfortunately, there was also a strong sewage smell here, which remained clearly present despite air fresheners present.
The room itself looked taken care of: the beds were neatly made and there were coffee, tea and water available. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was clean and neatly ironed. The room layout (one double bed and one twin room) was pleasant and suitable for a family. There were also television and wifi available.
Nevertheless, there were several negatives:(
The shower had very low water pressure: only a thin trickle of hot water, which made showering after a day of hiking very unpleasant. We have indicated this, it has not been remedied.
The double bed had only one duvet. Extra blankets were not available, and in the evening there were no staff present to solve this.
There were only two large towels ready, while we were four people. Extra towels I had to get myself. Moreover, the towels do not smell fresh and need to be replaced.
The breakfast (at €15 per person, also for children) we found disproportionate to the price. The offer consisted of:
coffee and tea
different (not fresh) juices
packaged fruit (such as fruit puree)
yoghurt, cheese and ham
butter, marmalade and cereals
a basket of 2 croissants, 2 chocolate rolls and bread on your table.
Hot chocolate was offered one morning, not the next. We lacked fresh products such as fresh fruit and juices. There was also little active presence of staff to ask if everything was satisfactory or if we would like another croissant for example.
However, the biggest flaw remains the constant sewage smell, which is present both in and around the building 24/7 and has had a very negative impact on our (eating) experience.
Conclusion: Although the accommodation looks charming at first glance, the smell, the lack of comfort of the shower and the value for money in terms of overall experience weigh heavily on us. We would therefore not recommend this accommodation as the first choice, but advise you to first look a little further for a better option.

Sure better places in beautiful Caen

Easy to find ref local transport from the station. I was on a work visit ref local history of Normandy. Room large. Warm. An attached twin. Bathroom was fine somewhat dusty ref radiator. Shower not good. Funny flow and aeration. Ground floor stank of a peculiar smell. Outside ref patio dirty and needs a proper jet wash. Shame as beautiful limestone. Some strange lighting system on the patio. Flashing on and off. Despite me mentioning nothing done. Breakfast fine. Despite constant bleating about environment the coffee was a Nespresso machine. Was foul. Def environmentally inappropriate!!! Staff just sort of dismissed you and wanted your cash. Johnny ? the manager. Seemed to not care less.

Charming property with spacious rooms. Great location within easy walking distance to restaurants and sights. Best suited for people who can carry luggage upstairs.

Perfection!!!!

Fabulous stay! Many folks stay in Bayeau when visiting the beaches of Normandy but Caen is less touristy! This small boutique hotel is not far from the beaches and offers a glimpse of local life.
Hotel staff is friendly and rooms are clean! Hotel is very quiet. The only thing that wakes you up is the birds! Rooms are not air conditioned but windows open and they provide fans.
We stayed in a family room that was perfect for three! Twin bed in one room and queen in the other. Nice sitting area with great selection of drinks in the mini fridge. Wonderful breakfast too!
